November 2011
We give thanks …

… because 90 youth members of the CWS-supported vocational training center in Port-au-Prince passed their government-certified exams and, as the center’s director Polycarp Joseph said, “they have given new meaning to their lives.” We are thankful for our partner’s tireless work in the accompaniment of Haitian children and youth in the construction of a better future.

… for the forum on food security and eating healthily organized by CWS partner Conference of Evangelical Churches of Guatemala (CIEDEG), indigenous groups -mainly women- and the local hospital, in Nebaj, Quiche, Guatemala. During the meeting, the indigenous' groups had the chance to share experiences and lessons learned about sustainable production of food, while participating in the CWS/FRB supported regional food and nutritional security program.

… to all who have made CROP Walks possible this season. We want to thank all CROP walkers who, year after year, continue to support the work of CWS around the world and all CWS staff and organizing committees for their effort in putting these meaningful events together.

We pray…

… for our partners and their beneficiaries en Central America affected by the continuous heavy rains during Hurricane Sean. We pray for the campesino families who have lost their food production, animals and houses and for our partners’ staff who are working with them in recovering their livelihoods.

… for the Guatemalan and Nicaraguan peoples after the recent presidential elections in both countries. We pray for those social justice workers who dedicate their lives to a more inclusive and just society.
