CWS Mobilizes in Wake of Tropical Storm Agatha

CWS is responding to tropical Storm Agatha, the first named storm of the 2010 Pacific hurricane season, has reportedly claimed at least 179 lives in Central America. More than 136,000 people have evacuated their homes and communities.

The storm with torrential rains caused mudslides and flooding in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, dumping more than 3 feet of rain in some regions.

At least 152 people died in Guatemala, the Associated Press reported, and 100 others were reported missing, officials said. Ten people perished in El Salvador and 17 in Honduras.

CWS will support efforts by fellow members of the ACT Alliance, who are coordinating a response. Among those responding is long-time CWS partner, the Conference of Evangelical Churches of Guatemala, CIEDEG.

Contributions to support CWS emergency response work are welcome.
