Indigenous Rights in the Chaco Region

Find Out More

South America’s Gran Chaco region is home to dozens of indigenous hunter-gatherer peoples who for thousands of years lived in harmony with their eco-system before losing most of their land. Today, in addition to living in extreme poverty, they are losing their culture and ways of life. In the CWS Chaco program, CWS LAC and its partners in Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay are strengthening the organizational capacity of groups of indigenous men and women in the Gran Chaco to secure legal title to their ancestral territory and to use the land in ways that are economically, socially and culturally sustainable.

DURING
PHASE II (2009-2012) the Chaco program will continue to build on the momentum of these processes while emphasizing more national level activities to harness the knowledge and motivation that come out of the tri-national events, and greater participation of young people in all program activities.
